Not only is 2001 the greatest sci-fi movie, it is THE GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME. Of course that's my opinion. But I just think it's an absolute masterpiece. A true work of art.
But, I feel like you hold Blazing Saddles in such a high regard just because of it's name and hype and I don't understand why you bash Spaceballs so much. Spaceballs hardly qualifies as a sci-fi movie. It's a satire, of course it isn't going to be great for science fiction lovers. It was still funny, I think it was a good one, and a classic. Young Frankenstein is good too but again I think you're just going by an "older is better" operation here. The whole farting scene in blazing saddles isn't even that funny. For Worst Sci-FI film, I am going to nominate Attack of the Clones
So many problems with this movie. It doesn't even qualify as a Star Wars movie. George is a total idiot.
I won't even go into it too much, and I probably don't have to, but it was boring, stupid, and had a lot of bad acting as well. Yoda hopping around fighting Count Dooku (what a dumb name ) was just embarrassing. Padme and Anakin's love scenes were sickening.
The worst thing was how horribly they disfigured Boba Fett's character with this film. Boba Fett used to be this mysterious badass figure, he was the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy. You didn't know who he was, you knew from his armor he was some forgotten relic of the clone wars and a deadly warrior with a dark past.
Oh guess what, turns out EVERY storm trooper is a clone of Boba Fett, his dad's name is Jango and he's a complete goof who wears this crappy blue version of Boba's armor.
Damn did they ever ruin that character and that franchise. Such a huge disappointment. I could rant about that bullshit trilogy all day, I am that scarred and butthurt from it. "Nothing is more surprising than the easiness with which the many are governed by the few." David Hume |

Damn, forgot about Battlefield Earth. Ouch
LOL at picking Prometheus as the worst. I didn't think it was that great, it was alright, nothing that innovative or spectacular but come on, the worst? Get REAL HOMI "Nothing is more surprising than the easiness with which the many are governed by the few." David Hume |

This forum should have a poll so we could vote for greatest sci fi film
Top 3 IMO
2001 Brazil Bladerunner
After that it gets fuzzy because there are a lot of good ones. You could throw in things like Star Wars, and of course Metropolis has to be up there.
Oh yeah if you like cheesy B-movie sci fi that is actually good, check out Spacehunter.
Gosh there are a lot of bad ones though. Lost In Space, all these dumb superhero movies they keep coming out with, of course like Thor and stuff like that can be entertaining, but most of the time they suck. Those crappy Blade movies. Van Helsing. I still can't believe they remade Planet of the Apes.
I still stand by my pick for worst sci fi movie as Attack of the Clones. Such a huge budget, there is just no excuse for that crap. "Nothing is more surprising than the easiness with which the many are governed by the few." David Hume |

Fendro Galbani wrote:Apart from the obvious classics (2001, Bladerunner, etc), I also quite enjoyed: - Twelve Monkeys - Wall-E - The Terminator - Total Recall (another Arnold movie, what is wrong with me?)
I severely disliked: - Armageddon - Independence Day - The Core - Starship Troopers
Good choices, Terminator and Total Recall both aren't up to the standards of the first two, I think you just have a thing for Arnie "Nothing is more surprising than the easiness with which the many are governed by the few." David Hume |

Oh, I actually just watched Moon for the first time. It is pretty great. I like how they made such a great movie using only a handful of actors. Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey, and then that's about it other than side characters who aren't even really in the plot.
I have a bit of a man-crush on Sam Rockwell, too. The guy just makes every movie he's in. Remember Galaxy Quest? "You're not gonna die on the planet, Guy." "I'm not? Then what's my last name?" "It's um.... I don't know..." "Nobody knows. You know why? Because my character isn't important enough for a last name, because I'm gonna die five minutes in!" "Guy, you have a last name." "DO I? DO I?? For all you know, I'm "Crewman Number 6"!"
"There's a, um... red thingy, uh, moving toward the green thingy...."

Vortexo VonBrenner wrote:WORST BY FAR: I recently forced myself to watch Star Trek: Into Darkness despite not having watched it previously because of what people had said about it. So sadly...they were all right. :( Never have I had such a reaction to any movie. I thought "Nooooo! abrams, what have you done!?" Makes me highly concerned about Star Wars... BEST: Everything Star Trek that built up a universe over the decades abrams bligthly destroys in the name of vapid rapid crap. sad panda with sad trombone Really it was that bad? What did you think of the first new Star Trek movie, the one that came out a few years ago?
Also, "makes me highly concerned about the new Star Wars.."
Dude, no concern necessary. Anyone with a brain knows how that is going to turn out. Was a whole prequel trilogy of non-sense not enough to alert you to the danger of imminent death upon the Star Wars franchise? "Hey, cruel world... you don't have what it takes! Prejudgement is bad, m'kayyyyy We won't know a thing until it's actually seen. George Lucas made a mess of his franchise and then sold it to Disney. That is what we have seen. That is what we know.

That's interesting because so far there is no "truth", only speculation. You're right. One could speculate that through some miracle perhaps Walt Disney and JJ Abrams could make a great Star Wars movie.
Too bad that just ain't gonna happen. I don't ever want God to hear our screams... and mistake them for prayers... |

As for worst... James Cameron's Avatar. Got bored to death watching it. I didn't really like it either. There is no way it was the worst sci-fi movie, though. Just LoL I don't ever want God to hear our screams... and mistake them for prayers... |
